*Polaroid Spectra System can be purchased on Amazon and eBay. Vintage photography enthusiasts shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a camera in functional condition. This particular model is not especially sought after by collectors, but it does have some value– even in non-functional condition. I sold it a few weeks later to a vintage camera collector for $25. I picked this Polaroid Spectra (pictured above) at a local thrift store for $5. While Polaroid no longer produces film for Spectra cameras, the Impossible Project continues to manufacture film for the cameras both in black and white and in color. Spectra cameras are thought to take higher-quality pictures than a conventional 600 Polaroid camera, due to the camera’s higher build quality and a proportionally larger print area. The Spectra/Image series also has many optional accessories, such as close-up lenses, special effects filters and a “law enforcement” kit. Over time, Polaroid has introduced many variants of the Spectra, but most include a ‘Quintic’ 125mm f/10 3-element plastic lens, self-timer, automatic exposure, and sonar autofocus in many cases the addition or removal of user controls is the only distinguishing characteristic between models. Polaroid Spectra ProCam (pictured to the right), which contains a folding viewfinder mechanism, is one of more desirable variants. Photo by: Tim Williams (Flickr Creative Commons) The Spectra range of cameras are better than the 600-film range, with most of the models utilizing an arc-shaped range of focusing lenses inside the body that swing across the exterior lens element to provide correct focusing, rather than adjusting the distance between internal lens elements. Spectra film (called ‘Image’ outside of North America) is rectangular (9.2 x 7.3 cm) rather than 600 film’s square format. Spectra film is otherwise identical to 600 film ISO speed, development method and operation remain identical. “Extensive control, accurate metering, accurate auto-focus with -get this- an actual readout of how many feet/meters away it focused in the viewfinder! I can’t recommend this camera enough for anybody who wants to use Polaroid or Impossible films.” “This is an amazing instant camera,” notes photography blogger Dan Finnen. The Polaroid Spectra System was an all-new line of cameras and had its own corresponding film. Have fun shooting.Polaroid introduced the Spectra system of cameras in 1986. That sounds like a bad design to me, but to each their own. Is the information in the manual perhaps?Īccording to this site turn the nob 1/3 twards dark because the proper film wasn't actually compatible. Worst case scenario your first test exposure gets stuck partially exposed. Not sure it will work with the rollers spreading the fluid, but I'm not familiar with "sx-70 film" google mentions, I thought all "modern" Polaroids used the older 600 film or the newer Spectra film. When the slide ejects cover the developed portion, and another section then quickly repack it and try again to get a general comparison on one slide. To experiment, Id suggest the following loosely laid out procedure.Įject the film pack in a dark room, and cover part of the top slide of film, then use the flash in a dark room. I have never heard of anyone using an ND filter on a vintage Polaroid, crystals and lenses to get cool effects sure, they come with the spectra kit, but not nd to correct exposure. My mother has a third, the Polaroid spectra system, using spectra film packs. I have a two types of Polaroid cameras using two types of film, a one step sonar based autofocus 600 film model, and a old "land camera square shooter 2" designated as for type 88 film. INCLUDES F107, F108, F109, F110, F111 FILTERS PLUS FILTER HOLDER, CASE, INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND ORIGINAL BOX. I recently opened an original(vintage?) Polaroid brand Polaroid 600 film pack, the film could not develop as the chemicals dried up. POLAROID SPECTRA SYSTEM SPECIAL EFFECTS FILTERS.
